Firewire USB Adapter
Firewire and USB are both high-speed bus technologies. Each allows you to connect multiple devices to your computer. However, these technologies don't communicate or integrate with each other. Adapters are therefore needed.
Firewire is the technology for high-data devices like a DVD player, whereas USB is for more ordinary data transfer, such as used by your mouse or keyboard. USB can handle a higher number of devices (127 to Firewire's 63).
To connect a USB device to a Firewire port you need a Firewire to USB adapter cable or a dual Firewire/USB hub. That's where we come in.

In general, the correct spelling is firewire USB adapter, but you will find some people writing fire wire USB adapter, and then there are those who think it's spelled "adaptor." Sort of like velociraptor without tearing your head off.
Your firewire devices might still be useful even if you don't have a Firewire USB adapter cable. Your USB devices are also not useless without the Firewire USB adapter cable even with just a firewire connection or just a USB port. Instead of a firewire USB adapter cable, you can avail yourself of a fire wire/USB adapter hub. These come in many sizes. The firewire/USB adapter hub has two ports in a single hub, which might be internal or external. There is the firewire port and the USB port. Using this combination device, all your firewire and USB devices can function. The hub doesn't convert the data, whereas conversion is used in the firewire usb adapter cable.
If you don't want to buy a firewire USB adapter cable or hub, you can also simply add two separate cards, at least, that is, if your computer has the available slots. Firewire and USB cards are less expensive than they used to be.
